Driver Killed As Car Smashes Into 57th St. Bridge in Temple
UPDATE: The victim of Wednesday’s fatal accident has been identified as 53-year-old Deborah Tyler of Killeen.
Police in Temple are investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a driver Wednesday afternoon.
Temple Police Department Spokesman Cody Weems reports that the crash occurred on eastbound Southwest HK Dodgen Loop and South 57th Street. A 4-door Mercedes sedan was headed east when it somehow left the roadway and became wedged under the 57th Street bridge.
Reporter Cole Johnson with our friends at KCEN-TV posted a photo of the crashed vehicle to Twitter.
A woman behind the wheel of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported. The woman's name was being withheld Wednesday afternoon pending notification of her family.
Temple PD's Traffic Reconstruction Unit is working to determine how the collision occurred.
Several Townsquare employees and listeners reported slow traffic in the area as police closed a portion of the roadway to investigate the crash and clear the scene.
