The Central Texas Food Bank is once again putting together a free food distribution event for friends and neighbors currently facing food insecurity.

They'll be setting up contactless drive-thru events in Waco and Temple in the first week of November.

The first event will take place Thursday, November 5 from 10 AM to Noon at Waco ISD Stadium, 1401 S New Rd in Waco.

The second event is planned for Saturday, November 7 from 9 AM to 11 AM at Temple College, 2600 S. 1st Street in Temple.

Volunteers with the Central Texas Food Bank will provide you with 60 to 66 pounds of assorted food items including protein, produce, and dairy products depending on available supplies.

Organizers ask that you make room in your trunk or whichever space in your vehicle in which the food will be placed. That will keep the line moving swiftly and help ensure everyone's safety.

While these are planned as drive-thru events for the safety of your family and volunteers, they will not turn you away if you don't have a vehicle and are in need of supplies. Just keep the weight of the supplies in mind.

The key phrase there is in need. This food is intended for those experiencing food insecurity, so please only plan to attend if you or someone you plan to deliver the food to really needs the assistance right now. If you know anyone in need of a little help, please pass this information along to them and help us get the word out.

If you're not able to make it to either of these events, visit centraltexasfoodbank.org and click Find Food Now for information on where you can find food assistance in your area.

Paul Gaither with the Central Texas Food Bank tells us there's been a significant increase in need throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Food Bank stands ready to help all Central Texans affected by the pandemic, but we’ve seen demand for our services skyrocket recently, severely straining our resources," Gaither wrote us in an email. "So if you’re able to help, we need monetary donations. Please donate at centraltexasfoodbank.org."

If you're not able to make a monetary donation, but would still like to help, the food bank could always use volunteers willing to donate their time. Information on getting involved can be found at centraltexasfoodbank.org/get-involved/volunteer.

If your organization or company would like to help out, or if you'd like to help each time you make an online purchase, you'll find all the information you need at centraltexasfoodbank.org/get-involved.

However you choose to give time or money, just know that you'll be helping an organization based right here in Central Texas that serves about 60,000 people in need every week across 21 local counties.

Thanks to all the volunteers who make these events possible. You guys are awesome.
