Fort Hood MWR is warning the community of scammers forging Army Emergency Relief (AER) checks and depositing them with the help of recruits.

The forgers reportedly recruit soldiers, retirees, and family members with the promise of easy money if they'll allow the criminals to deposit the fraudulent checks into their bank accounts via mobile deposit services.

As officials investigate the criminal activity, AER staff have been told implement a 24-hour holding period on all AER checks deposited by phone.

Help will be provided to soldiers on emergency travel who need to deposits checks by phone.
