Free School Supplies, While They Last, on Friday, August 6th

Here's yet another reminder that summer only lasts so long. We are already talking about school supplies.

It's About That Time

That's always a sure-fire way to tell exactly where we are in the summer: when you start hearing about back-to-school stuff, you know it's almost over.

Welp, here we are, talking back-to-school. With it comes school registration, new clothes, and back-to-school supplies. Sounds expensive, don't it? That's because it is. According to a report on CNBC, inflation will definitely affect the cost per-student this year.

What It Will Cost Us

Back-to-school supplies last year averaged about $250 per student This year, it's expected to be around $270 per student. Just a $20 difference, but that adds up when you have 2, 3, or 4 or kids to shop for. Add clothes shopping to that and it amounts to a small fortune, and it doesn't sound like any retail promos are on the way to help.

Waiting for a Break? Good Luck With That

KPMG’s consumer and retail division strategy lead, Scott Rankin says,

“There are fewer promotions and coupon offers, so the price realization has gone up pretty significantly across a lot of retail categories. We haven’t quite yet seen the full-court press from the office supply stores and some of the mass merchandisers and the big e-commerce players ... but I do think we are going to see less promotionally around [school] supplies.”

But There Is Hope

Fortunately there are some local promos right here in Central Texas that can help. Here at Townsquare Media we are underway with our 8th Annual "Stuff the Bus" Campaign with school supplies going to kids K-12 in Killeen ISD, Temple ISD and Belton ISD.

FOX 44 News reports that Aware Central Texas is also hosting a school-supply drive-thru and cookout on August 6. It's open to families in Bell County and will happen in two locations on Friday, August 6 from 5-7p. The Aware Central Texas Temple Office at 212 W Adams Avenue, and the cookout will only be held at the Grace Christian Center in Killeen at 1401 E Elms Road.

This is a "while supplies last" event so don't be late and remember, if you have the ability to donate, our Stuff the Buss campaign sure could use your help.

It's Time to 'Stuff the Bus' for Central Texas Students

The new school year is just around the corner, and Central Texas students will face unique challenges as we put the pandemic behind us and look to the future.

One challenge no child should face is being without the essential school supplies they'll need to live up to their potential and achieve academic success.

That's where you and I come in. From July 19 to August 15, you can donate school supplies at the following locations. Donated supplies will benefit students in need in Belton ISD, Killeen ISD, and Temple ISD. (Click each district to view their 2021-2022 school supply lists.)
