Springtime in Central Texas is almost here, time for fun in the sun, especially at one of Central Texas' favorite spots, Temple Lake Park.

But, this year when you head over for some lake time fun you'll see something missing from the park, glass.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is implementing a “no glass container” policy for Temple Lake Park on Lake Belton beginning March 8.

This will 'prohibit the possession or use of glass containers — including, but not limited to beer bottles, soda bottles, and glass condiment jars — in the park. The possession of a glass container could lead to a fine and/or removal from the park.'

The Corps adopted the policy for safety reasons including park visitors being injured from broken glass and environmental stewardship concerns.

“Temple’s Lake Park has great shorelines for day use, and many customers use the shoreline to walk or wade into the water,” Bruggman told the Temple Daily Telegram. “We have had lots of injuries the past few years because of the glass.”

So break out those plastic or aluminum containers to keep all your favorite beverages in as you head out to Temple Lake Park this Spring.
