Shoppers in Harker Heights and the surrounding area will have one less retail option after this weekend.

Wet Seal, a retail chain owned by Versa Capital, is closing its 171 stores across the United States, including the Market Heights location at 201 East Central Texas Expressway.

We called the Heights location to confirm, and employee told us "there won't be a store standing after Sunday."

According to a letter obtained by the Wall Street Journal and dated January 20, employees at the teen fashion retailer's headquarters in Irvine, California were recently notified that the company was laying off all employees and permanently shutting down.

A Wall Street Journal analyst said dwindling foot traffic at malls across the United States played a major role in Wet Seal's demise.

Other retailers are hurting as well, and in early January, Kmart announced nationwide closures as well, including the location at 1101 S Fort Hood St in Killeen.
