Here Are 24 of the Most Anticipated Hip-Hop Projects of 2017
It's a new year and that means new music in the hip-hop world. With nearly one month in the bag, plenty of hip-hop heavyweights have announced new material is dropping this year. XXL went to Twitter to ask the public which projects they're looking forward to hearing this year and the answers varied.
Big Sean was pretty quiet for the first half of 2016, but then started dropping fire loosies out of midair. With a feature from the Rap God himself, Eminem, Sean's fourth studio album, I Decided., is slated to drop Feb. 3. From Detroit to Atlanta, Migos will make their sophomore album flex felt when they release Culture on Jan. 27. The project features the hottest song in the country, "Bad and Boujee," and collaborations with Travis Scott, DJ Khaled, 2 Chainz and Lil Uzi Vert. Migos are about to widen their reign on the rap game with this LP.
As is usually the case in hip-hop, plenty of highly-anticipated projects were supposed to make their acquaintance with our ears already, but their release dates were pushed back. Drake's latest effort, More Life, was originally scheduled to drop in December of 2016 to cap off his record-setting year, but apparently the material wasn't quite ready yet. Now he's looking at a first quarter of 2017 release. Drizzy might just do a surprise drop on his fans on Valentine's Day like he did with If You're Reading This It's Too Late in 2015. There's no telling.
ATL SoundCloud sensation Playboi Carti will finally drop his debut mixtape before the year is out and 2016 XXL Freshman G Herbo will unleash his debut album, Humble Beast, after a pushed back release date last fall.
From collabs to mixtapes to albums, these are the projects people are waiting for and are expected to drop in 2017. There are many other great releases that will drop this year but at the moment, these are what hip-hop fans are talking about when it comes to Twitter. Who's going to end up actually releasing a solid project? Only time will tell. Feel free to refer back to this list around New Year's Eve in December of 2017 to see which one of your rap prayers was answered.
