Kanye West's relationship with his father, Ray West, is not as well documented as Yeezy's relationship with his mother, Donda West, but according to 'Ye, his dad was actually present at the Wyoming recording sessions and tried to talk him out of supporting President Donald Trump.

In an interview with The New York Times that was published on Monday (June 25), Kanye said his father expressed his displeasure with some of Trump's policies. “He expressed that he felt that some of the policies were hurtful and that I’m a person that does not intend to hurt people, never hurts people with intention," Kanye revealed.

But the rapper fired back at his father, sharing an example of an incarcerated cousin that he still loves. “I expressed the example that I have a cousin that’s locked up for doing something bad, and I still love him, so I don’t base my love for a person on if they doing something good or bad," he added.

In April, 'Ye called Trump his brother and said the two share the same "dragon energy." In a tweet, Kanye wrote, "I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought."

Elsewhere during the interview, the "Yikes" rapper admitted he doesn't always agree with Trump's policies, but said he prefers to not be overly politically informed. "Having a political opinion that’s overly informed, it’s like knowing how to dress, as opposed to being a child—'I like this,'" he said. "I hear Trump talk and I’m like, I like the way it sounds, knowing that there’s people who like me that don’t like the way it sounds."

In related Kanye West news, the Chicago rapper recently teamed up with singer, Teyana Taylor, for the release of her album, K.T.S.E., which marked the last release of five Yeezy-produced albums, following Pusha-T's Daytona, West's Ye, Kanye and Kid Cudi's Kids See Ghosts and Nas' Nasir.
