Kevin Gates Released From Prison, Twitter Reacts
Kevin Gates was released from East Moline Correctional Center in Illinois on Wednesday (Jan. 10), according to TMZ.
The Louisiana rapper served a nine months of a 30-month sentence on felony gun possession. Gates began his sentence last spring after he served a six-month sentence for kicking a female fan in the chest during a concert in Florida.
Under the orders of his release, Gates will be on mandatory supervision and will not be allowed to own any firearms.
Gates has not made an official statement publicly, although he did share an image of the words "I'M HIM" on his social media accounts. We don't know if this is the title of a new song or if he's simply making a statement.
Gates shared a similar statement in an open letter to his fans back in September 2017.
“A great person is measured by all of the great test they can undergo and still remain true to who they are. "With that being said, ‘I’m Him'," he wrote. At the end of his letter, he writes, “I love you all. In closing I remain the same.”
Gates' attorney has told TMZ that his client will devote a considerable amount of time helping teens avoid the pitfalls he faced during his life.
Either way, fans are happy that Gates is finally out of prison. Several folks went on Twitter to celebrate the rapper's release. There were also a few people who didn't care much about Gates being a free man.
