The man who allegedly attempted to blackmail Kevin Hart over a sex tape has been charged with extortion, TMZ reports.

Last year, Jonathan Todd Jackson, who goes by J.T., attempted to coerce the comedian into paying him an undisclosed amount in return for a near 5-minute video that contained footage of Hart having sexual relations with woman who was not his wife.

The tryst reportedly took place in a Las Vegas hotel room in the summer of 2017. Hart's wife was pregnant at the time.

Jackson faces two counts of felony over the incident: attempted extortion and extortion by threatening letter.

As TMZ reports, Jackson, an actor, was a close friend of Hart's for nearly two decades, a revelation that only adds salt to the wound. The two appeared together in Hart's film Thank Like a Man Too.

After news broke of Jackson's involvement, Hart tweeted his disappointing, writing, "Mind blown ... Hurt ... at a loss for words and simply in complete disbelief at the moment. WOW."
