Online Central Texas Sex Sting Leads To 8 People Being Arrested
Think of this as the Central Texas version of the show "To Catch A Predator".
When I've watched that show in the past, I never really understood why people would even attempt to meet with underage people. Aside from it just being wrong, there's also the fact that you're most likely going to meet up with an undercover cop. Even people who'd seen TCaP would show up. How dumb can you be?
Here in Bell County, over a two-day span eight individuals were recently arrested, accused of engaging in sexual conversations with minors and attempting to meet up with them. Two of them are active-duty military personnel. The other two reportedly drove more than two hours to meet up with who they thought was an underaged teenager.
KWTX reports that Charles Pulley, Daniel Martinez who is 79 years old, Ramon Rodriguez, Kevin Wallace, Vidoll Smith, Christopher Slough, Harkin Alamo, and Gustavo Miranda were all arrested for agreeing to meet with an underage female to engage in a sexual act for a fee and engaging in sexual conversation, according to Bell County Sheriff Maj. T.J. Cruz's press release.
Thankfully these guys have been caught, and if found guilty, will end up on the registry so people know to avoid them. Sadly, there are probably more out there who haven't been caught and actually do manage to meet underage people, many of who are probably victims of human trafficking.
The Texas Attorney General's Office website has information on how to spot and report suspected human trafficking. We live at the intersection of two major highways, so it's a good idea to have this information in the back of your mind.
