As more people work from home or practice social distancing to help slow the spread of COVID-19, delivery drivers and curbside delivery workers are hard at work keeping people fed and providing convenience.

Now more than ever, it's important that we tip these workers generously.

Most restaurant wait staff rely heavily on these tips during normal circumstances, so you can imagine how stressful it is to think that their business could see a reduction in customers if ordered to suspend dine-in services. After all, less customers coming in to eat equals less tips.

Workers for delivery apps are also hustling extra had right now. You can request that they leave your food at the door so there's a distance between you, but when you're choosing that option, don't forget to include a good tip.

These workers are also working under extraordinary circumstances, so be understanding if they seem exhausted or stressed out when they bring your order.

Unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of knowing people who refuse to tip if the delivery person doesn't smile or say hi with enthusiasm, and that's when the world isn't going bananas.

I also want to take a moment to thank the employees at our local grocery and department stores who are putting in extra hours and busting their backs to keep shelves full and their stores clean. Those partners at HEB in particular do such a fantastic job during times like these. If you're shopping in-store, getting curbside delivery, or having things dropped off at your home, let these employees know you appreciate their efforts. Even a little gesture of gratitude could be the spiritual boost they need after a long day.

Thanks to all our healthcare workers and first responders as well. Your jobs are stressful enough during times of relative calm, so I can't imagine what you've been seeing lately. Your work is so very much appreciated.

In short, just be generous and kind during this time of tension and uncertainty. We'll get through this together, and it'd be great if we could all look back on this time and say we did our best to be good to one another.
