R. Kelly Arrest Warrant Issued After He Misses Sex Crime Case Court Date: Report
R. Kelly faces another arrest warrant for a sex crime.
According to a report TMZ published on Thursday evening (Sept. 12), a Minnesota judge issued a bench warrant for the singer's arrest after he failed to appear in Minnesota's Hennepin County Court for a 1:30 p.m. hearing for a sex crime case. Kelly, who was indicted on other federal sex crime-related charges in July, is currently imprisoned in Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center.
Kelly's lawyer, Steven Greenberg, says it's not the singer's fault he missed the court date for the case, which CBS News reports stem from accusations that Kelly asked a 17-year-old girl to remove her clothes and dance for him for $200 in 2001.
"They never came to get him, wtf was he supposed to do, telepathically transport himself?" Greenberg asked in a statement.
Federal authorities in the Northern District of Illinois reportedly aren't willing to give the Minnesota District Attorney's Office access to Kelly until his Illinois federal case has concluded.
Kelly has been behind bars since being arrested for counts of child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice in Illinois on July 11. He faces a separate indictment for charges of sex trafficking and more in New York.
