Surprising Texas Earthquake One Of Its Largest Ever
Ackerly, Texas just received a whole lot more Google searches after being the epicenter for one of the largest earthquakes in the history of our state. If you do not feel like googling the town yourself, it is located about 20 miles north of Midland, only has about 250 residents, but does split those neighbors across the line between Dawson and Martin counties.

My family and I like to take walks and bicycle rides in the evening as a way to get the kids some extra fresh air, and squeeze out any remaining wiggles they might have in a reserve tank. Last night, just before 8 PM, we were in the middle of one of our many pauses that are necessary this time of year to inspect a cricket, or grasshopper, or tailing a line of ants to see where their home is when the ground started to rumble.
I was able to reach out to the neighbor's fence post, and sure enough it was rumbling too. After getting home, I immediately checked out the website by the United States Geological Survey, called Did You Feel It.

Turns out the earthquake was big enough to land in the top 8 all time for the state at 5.1 on the Richter scale. The largest earthquake of all time for the Lone Star State is 5.8 according to this KXAN article, and that was recorded in 1931.
