Temple honored a legend this past weekend.

The community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the “Mean” Joe Greene Community Football Field.

The Harker Heights Jr. Knights and the Temple Falcons held their first game at the field located at East Avenue H and 34th Street. The new park was a part of  the $27.6 million parks pond package approved by voters in 2015.

"Mean" Joe Greene is a four time Super Bowl champion who was once raised in Temple.

City leaders wanted to honor the hometown hero with a token of love.

The 10 time pro athlete was beyond excited to have his name on the field that will strengthen many great players.
