In an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19, Temple's Parks & Recreation Department has temporarily closed parks and amenities across the city.

Effective Wednesday, April 1, Temple Parks & Rec closed playgrounds, basketball courts, volleyball courts, pavilions, and gazebos at public parks. Park restrooms were closed as well, and water fountains have been turned off.

Hiking and bicycling trails remain open, along with sports fields and Miller Springs Nature Center. However, city officials ask that people please continue practicing social distancing and good hand hygiene.

There's currently no timetable for when these parks and ballcourts will reopen.

In addition to park closures, the City of Temple has also announced the cancellation of the annual Bloomin' Temple Festival.
