Texas Grand Jury Takes No Action against Church Shooting Hero

A grand jury here in Texas decided it will not return charges against a man who shot the killer of two people in a horrendous church shooting last year near Forth Worth.

KETK reports that on December 29, 2019, Jack Wilson was attending services at The West Freeway Church Of Christ in White Settlement and acting as a volunteer security guard when a man drew a gun and began firing at people. The gunman fatally wounded two people in their 60's before Wilson, who's a former National Guard member and firearms instructor, pulled a gun and fired back, killing the gunman.

In January of 2020, Wilson was awarded the Governor's Medal Of Courage which is the highest civilian honor here in Texas.

"When faced with an evil that few of us will ever comprehend, Jack Wilson responded with strength, bravery, and with love for those in the church that day," Governor Greg Abbott said. "The courage in his actions cannot be understated, and Jack is not only a hero to West Freeway Church of Christ — he is a hero to the entire state of Texas."

He walked free because of a Texas law that allows a person who sees a crime where others are at risk for injury or death to use deadly force to protect those in danger.

Good news for someone who did a great deed. Who knows who else the killer could have harmed had Wilson had not stepped in.
