Temple, Texas is where our home is located, and we have been dealing with an ongoing invasion for the almost two years since we closed on the home in February of 2023. The issue is our initial invasion is often just phase one of another, much more deadly invasion, and a great lesson for cause and effect for our three young children.

When the weather does finally transition from summer or late summer into fall with the daily temperature averages beginning in the chilly range, that is when you will notice our field dwelling friends (mice) start seeking warmer places to build their nests.

According to this House Digest article, some rattlesnakes and possibly copperheads in Texas too, put off an odor that humans believe has a resemblance to cucumbers. It apparently is a musk that they can secrete when they feel threatened.

If there are snakes that have made their way into my garage to pursue the migrating mice, just know I hope they never feel the need to put off a cucumber smell because at this point they are most welcome because we have caught no less than 30 mice over the past couple of fall seasons.

By no means do I want any snakes seeking an easy meal to send out a newsletter to all of their kin, and then have to be dealing with a whole colony like the video above, but right now all I can think about is if the mice disappear, then any potential snakes would have to move along as well.
