Olympians from around the world are returning home, and one of the most common destination for many of them is the Austin, Texas area as the University of Texas had 15 different athletes earn 21 total medals from the Paris 2024 Olympics. In fact if all the Texas linked competitors had been competing as its own country, the Lone Star State would have finished the games with the 5th most medals versus every other nation from across the globe.

Overall, 5 different institutions of higher learning in Texas sent a total of 40 competitors to this year's Olympics. The total number of medals collected by athletes that were either born, trained, or lived in Texas was 58 and 53 of them contributed to the USA total.

That is wild to think that almost half of the total medals won by America in this year's Olympics were by Texas linked competitors, but when you consider champions like Simone Biles, Gabby Thomas, and Tara Davis-Woodhall.

University Of Texas Nearly Took Top Prize At New Olympics

According to this ESPN article, the only universities with more medals than Texas was Stanford and California, and the Southeastern Conference came in second with total medals behind athletes from ACC schools.

No state however was better represented than Texas, and the 58 total medals would have placed Texas as 5th in the world just behind the host country of France.
