With all of the store closures in Texas, and the nonstop questions about the current health of the economy across the country and within the Lone Star State it is especially troubling to see another one of the really great shopping options that was still available for quality goods at discount prices has now filed for bankruptcy too.

The latest southern retailer to announce they are going out of business, and liquidating everything at discounts of 40 to 90% is Mississippi based Dirt Cheap. Their slogan is "I love Dirt Cheap," and when you are trying to scrape by paycheck to paycheck under the current out of control inflation and price gouging happening across the boards, it is discouraging to learn consumers can't even keep open the modestly priced retail options.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
