TMZ Reporter Claims Irish Don’t Know Who Jay-Z and Beyoncé Are

An Irish reporter with TMZ is catching heat after claiming that Jay-Z and Beyoncé are total unknowns in his home country.

In a video uploaded to TMZ’s YouTube channel, Peter O’Riordan reacts to reports that the musical power couple were able to take a leisurely stroll with their daughter, Blue Ivy, through a park in Dublin without being mobbed by fans.

“I guarantee there’s people who saw them in the park in Ireland and had no idea who they were,” he says.

When a co-worker responds with a quip about the couple not registering with Irish people because they’re black, O’Riordan goes into a defensive mini-rant before TMZ Managing Editor Harvey Levin interjects.

“Oh I know why,” Levin says, “no, they’ll know who they are in, like, fifteen years.”

O’Riordan has since claimed that his remarks were taken out of context and blames poor video editing.

After the video was uploaded to TMZ’s YouTube channel on March 12, proud Irish from around the world posted comments and Tweeted in objection to the ignorant statements made by everyone involved.
