Officials at Fort Hood have announced new travel restrictions due to an increase in coronavirus cases in five Texas counties.

According to the Killeen Daily Herald, service members are not permitted to travel to Travis County, Harris County, Tarrant County, Dallas County, or Bexar County, according to an order on the III Corps and Fort Hood Facebook page.

Specific cities such as Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas that are heavily populated are on the list of travel restrictions.

Fort Hood officials posted the announcement on their Facebook Thursday, and wrote that soldiers whose normal place of residence is in one of those five counties or those that are sent there on official duty are exempt from the travel restriction.

They still want soldiers to not travel if it's nonessential to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

These men and women are ready to put their lives on the line for our country every day, and we appreciate what they do to protect our freedoms.  We hope all the soldiers at Fort Hood and around the world stay safe.
