Starting next month, Killeen residents are encouraged to take "the long way" due to the repairs being done to the W.S.Young Drive bridge near the Killeen Community Center.

The City of Killeen announced Wednesday that construction crews will be replacing damaged concrete at both ends of the bridge. To ensure everyone is safe during this time, the bridge will be closed and traffic will be detoured.

From November 4th through November 30th, motorists are encouraged to use 10th Street and 38th Street for both north and south travel.

Hilary Shine with the City of Killeen also warns that drivers should give themselves enough time to travel to adapt to the closures, so be sure to factor the extra time you'll need into your commute.

Killeen Community Center and Athletic Complex parks, fields, dog park, trail and other amenities will remain accessible to northbound traffic. Businesses located north of the bridge are accessible via Rancier Avenue.

"The City of Killeen apologizes for any inconvenience as a result of this work and appreciates your cooperation as we improve this bridge," Shine said Wednesday.

Please make a note of it, and pass this information along to others. The more people know the closure is coming, the more potential headaches and road rage we can help prevent.

As always, if you're driving in or around any work zones, take it slow and watch for workers and equipment.
