A 24-year-old man led Waco Police on a vehicle chase with 2 kids in the car.

According to our news partners at KWTX, Devonte Wright was arrested Wednesday after crashing his vehicle and leading officers on a vehicle chase.

Wright is currently is the McLennan County Jail and was charged evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot, tampering with physical evidence, two counts of abandoning or endangering a child and possession of marijuana. Wright also has 18 outstanding traffic warrants.

It's clear why he was trying to evade law enforcement, but let me tell you the worst thing you can do is run, especially with children in your vehicle.

Police suspected that the silver Dodge sedan Wright was driving may have been the same vehicle involved in a shooting at Trendwood Apartments. Officers attempted to pull Wright over, but were instead led on a chase from East Waco Drive to West Waco Drive. The vehicle chase ended when Wright crashed into a utility pole, but he then led police on a foot chase, leaving the children and another passenger in the sedan.

Law enforcement captured Wright, and later determined that the vehicle was not linked to the Trendwood Apartment shooting.
