Waiver For Expired Registration, License and Title Is Set To Expire In April
If your title, driver's license, or registration is expired, you might want to make an appointment with the local DMV.
On March 16th, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott issued a waiver for expired documents, but that waiver is set to expire on April 14th, 2021.
Due to the pandemic, many DMV offices have been busy working with appointment-only residents, which has made it extremely hard for people to renew their tags and expired IDs. With the expiration date coming near, residents are being encouraged to make appointments as soon as possible.
If you are looking to renew, you can also send the correct paperwork through the mail, online, or in person.
According to KXXV, if you are pulled over after April 14th, you could receive a ticket for up to $200 for expired registration.
Your first step will need to be passing inspection. If you're concerned about COVID-19 safety, call a few local inspection stations and ask if they allow you to remain in your vehicle and help them with the process. Some places actually will allow you to do this. One of our employees was able to receive such a vehicle inspection at the Valvoline at 4304 West Adams Avenue.
Once your vehicle's passed inspection, you may be able to renew your registration online. In fact, some inspection stations will send a digital copy of your inspection to the DMV. Be sure to ask about that when you go in for inspection. You can find registration renewal deadlines using this chart.
