Here’s How To Know If You Qualify For A Stimulus Check, And How Much You’ll Get Back
The Senate passed its version of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act Saturday, which is expected to be passed by the House this week as well.
If you're not sure if you'll qualify for the $1,400 stimulus checks expected to go out following approval of the legislation, both Omni Calculator and Forbes have calculators available to help you figure it out.
I saw countless internet memes joking about the Biden Administration taking too long to push them out, but the wait is over!
To figure out how much you'll get back from the government, you have to answer 4 easy questions:
- Have you filed your 2020 tax return?
- What's your filing status: Single, Head Of Household, or Married?
- How many dependents do you have?
- What was your total income in 2020?
Based on the details of the bill, your answers to these questions will determine if you'll receive $1,400, less that that, or possibly even more. (If you haven't gotten your tax documents from work yet, be sure to ask about it and get your taxes filed ASAP.)
The bill, which the House will most likely vote on Tuesday, March 9, also includes subsidies for COVID-19 testing and vaccination, extensions of unemployment compensation, eviction and foreclosure moratoriums, and an expansion to the Child Tax Credit. You can find details about what this could mean for you and your family at Investopedia. As they point out, the House could possibly make a few changes, but that doesn't seem too likely to happen.
Good luck, and Happy Calculating!
