Wale Claims American Airlines Employees Are Racist After Threatening to Call Police on Him
Wale becomes the latest rapper to accuse American Airlines employees of being racist. Yesterday (Sept. 16), the Warner Bros. Records signee hopped onto Twitter and discussed his frustration with the airline.
Interestingly, Wale began his American Airlines-focused tweet thread with some fairly mundane complaints about his flight being delayed for the "5th time in like 10 days." From there, American Airlines' Twitter issued their apology by responding to the thread and saying that plane maintenance was probably the reason the flight was stalled. That's when Wale let loose his accusation of racism.
"How about ur employees Megumi and Don told me 'ur not supposed to be in first class I’m calling the police,'" Wale wrote in one tweet. "Here u go . Y’all racist and I wanna know what happens now. Megumi and Don is their names."
American Airlines responded to XXL's request for a comment about the incident, saying that they are "concerned" about Wale's claims.
"Discrimination has no place at American Airlines," the statement reads. "From the team members we hire to the customers we serve, inclusion and diversity is a way of life at American. Every day, our team members work to make American a place where people of all generations, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religious affiliations and backgrounds feel welcome and valued. We are concerned about the comments from Mr. Akintimehin, and our team is reaching out to him to gather more information about what occurred last night."
Wale's claim arrives a little over eight months after Rich The Kid accused American Airlines of racial profiling. In his case, Rich claimed that flight attendants had told him to sit down when he tried to use the bathroom before his flight reached the gate. When he refused to do so, Rich's manager reportedly said he'd cut off their heads. The manager was arrested when their flight landed.
