It seems no matter which direction you're coming from, the traffic at the I-35/I-14 intersection in Belton is always a mess. It doesn't help when crews have to close down lanes to work, but at least they're giving us a heads-up and doing the work at night.

Jake Smith with TxDOT's Waco Region Office (which covers our stretch of I-35) issued an alert Monday afternoon about closures happening Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night so that TxDOT crews can can do some paving and bridge joint work.

Monday night (August 2), TxDOT will close two outside, northbound lanes of I'35 from South Loop 121 to Central Avenue. The on-ramps to SL 121, Holland Road, and the eastbound I-14 frontage road will also be closed.

But wait! There's more.

Eastbound I-14 approaching I-35 will be closed as well, and traffic will be diverted to Connell  Street. The I-35 Central Avenue exit will be closed too, so drivers will need to use the 6th Avenue exit - exit 294B.

These closures will begin at 7PM and run through 6AM tonight and Tuesday night.

The fun continues Wednesday night, when crews will close two inside northbound lanes of I-35 between SL 121 and Central Avenue. The inside eastbound lane of I-14 approaching I-35 will also be closed.

The on-ramps to SL 121, Holland Road, and the eastbound  I-14 frontage road will close as well.

Wednesday's closures will begin at 7PM and run through 6AM Thursday.

Of course, all of this depends on the weather conditions and whether or not crews can get all the work done within those hours, so we'll let you know if conditions change.

If your commute usually takes you through that area, consider finding an alternate route. If you have to drive through, watch for workers. Slow down and give them some space.

Drive safe out there, Central Texas.
