The 58th annual Killeen Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, and your organization is welcome to be a part of it and help spread some Christmas cheer during a year in which we could all use an extra dose.

Applications are being accepted now through 5:00 PM Monday, November 30. You'll find this year's entry form on the City of Killeen's website right here. There's a $25 fee, and every entry is required to be decorated and to light up on both sides. Awards will be given for the best entries in three categories: Best Non-Profit, Best Commercial, and Best Entertainment Group.

This year's theme is "Parks on Ice", so you're encouraged to incorporate that into your display. I'm thinking that means a lot of bright blue and white twinkling lights.

Be sure to fill out the Announcer Script portion of the entry form so they'll know what to tell folks about your display and your organization.

This year's Christmas parades in Killeen, Copperas Cove, and Temple will work a little differently than in years past.

Rather than having crowds of folks pack the sidewalks downtown, each town is hosting a "frozen" parade.

No, that doesn't mean Elsa and Anna have hijacked the events. It means instead of the parade driving by you, you will drive by the parade so your family can enjoy it from the safety and comfort of your own vehicle. Think of it like Nature in Lights out at BLORA, only on a smaller scale.

Get the details about the Killeen Christmas parade here. Information on Temple's Christmas parade can be found here, and you'll find information about Copperas Cove's parade here.

Hopefully by this time next year, this pandemic will be over and we'll have moved on. Until then, I think this format is great. We can still enjoy the lights and displays while looking out for each other.
