After much speculation and never answering the question about his career plans, until tonight, Dallas Mavericks great, Dirk Nowitzki has announced his retirement.

The 14 time NBA All-Star, NBA MVP, and NBA Champion played 21 years after being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks 9th overall in the first round back in 1998.

In the opinion of many, his style of play revolutionized the play of the Center position with a signature fadeaway jumper and elite three-point shooting.

Last month, Nowitzki passed Wilt Chamberlain to become the NBA's 6th all-time leading scorer behind Michael Jordan.

He won the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award in 2007, and NBA Finals MVP IN 2011 as he led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Championship.

He addressed the Mavericks home crowd for the last time as a player:

Dirk's last game will be against the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday Night.
