A Copperas Cove High School student was arrested after a brief lockdown of the campus Monday afternoon.

At 12:40 PM, Copperas Cove ISD announced in a media release that the school had been placed on lockdown due to what officials called an "unsubstantiated threat".

According to district officials, the lockdown was prompted by a student had a knife in his backpack. They say the student did not threaten any other students, but an arrest was made, as the campus has a zero-tolerance policy concerning weapons.

Student resource officers and Copperas Cove Police Department officers secured the campus, and officials asked that parents not come to campus in order to allow officers to do their jobs. However, our partners at News 10 report that some parents did drive to the school, and beginning around 1:30 PM they were allowed to pick up their children.

District officials said transportation services would run on their usual schedule this afternoon, and that additional counselors and administrators were on campus Monday afternoon to provide support for students.
