Dodge Country Used Cars and the Buffalo Soldiers of Killeen are holding a food drive, and they're asking you to come out and give what you can to help feed the hungry in our community.

MARCH 1ST THRU 13TH (1)

One in six Americans struggle with hunger, and the organizers of this food drive feel that our community is not an exception. After all, we've not only had to deal with the negative impact of the ongoing pandemic, but with the aftermath of the winter storm, in which many people lost work hours and food that spoiled during blackouts.

Judging by the increased demand organizations like the Central Texas Food Bank and Operation Phantom Support have experienced, we can't disagree that food insecurity is very much a part of the lives of many of our neighbors in Central Texas.

The Feed Killeen Food Drive will benefit the Killeen Food Care Center, which provides more than 250,000 pounds of food for those in need every month, so you know your donation will stay right here in our area.

The great thing is that you don’t have to raid your pantry or make a special trip to the store if you want to give to their cause.

The Killeen Food Care Center can provide a meal for 14 cents. Let's break that down:

  • $5 buys 35 meals
  • $10 buys 71 meals
  • $20 buys 142 meals
  • $100 buys 714 meals

If you can give food for their pantry, you're invited to leave it with the folks at Dodge Country, 1902 E Central Texas Expy, now through March 13.

LOOK: Milestones in women's history from the year you were born

Women have left marks on everything from entertainment and music to space exploration, athletics, and technology. Each passing year and new milestone makes it clear both how recent this history-making is in relation to the rest of the country, as well as how far we still need to go. The resulting timeline shows that women are constantly making history worthy of best-selling biographies and classroom textbooks; someone just needs to write about them.

Scroll through to find out when women in the U.S. and around the world won rights, the names of women who shattered the glass ceiling, and which country's women banded together to end a civil war.
