Great News! Cyntoia Brown granted full clemency for killing her sex offender
Cynthia Brown was 15 years old when she killed Johnny Mitchell Allen.
Brown said she had been raped repeatedly, sex trafficked and forced into prostitution at a young age when she was solicited for sex by Allen.
Brown shot Allen in the head, stole money and guns while he was sleeping took his truck and fled the scene. She claimed she took the items back to her pimp who would beat or kill her if she returned empty-handed.
Prosecutors, however, had a different story.
They claimed she was a teen prostitute and took the items in a robbery, not self-defense. She was tried as an adult and was convicted of murder and robbery and sentenced to life in prison.
Her case caught national headlines by politicians and celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Ashley Judd.
Today she was granted full clemency by the outgoing governor of Tennessee Bill Haslem!
CNN reports that Governor Haslem of Tennesee said:
"This decision comes after careful consideration of what is a tragic and complex case," Haslam said."Cyntoia Brown committed, by her own admission, a horrific crime at the age of 16. Yet, imposing a life sentence on a juvenile that would require her to serve at least 51 years before even being eligible for parole consideration is too harsh, especially in light of the extraordinary steps Ms. Brown has taken to rebuild her life. Transformation should be accompanied by hope."
Congrats to her though it took 15 years of her life justice has prevailed!
She will be released to parole supervision on August 7th.
