According to BuzzAngle's Hitmakers list,  Kendrick Lamar and Future have two of the biggest songs in 2017.

It takes into account audio streams, video streams, radio spins, Shazam tags and song sales to determine what the top 30 songs of 2017 are, and hip-hop held a prominent place on the top 10 list with five songs mentioned.

Specifically, Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.” from his acclaimed album, DAMN. sits at the No. 3 spot with 4,426,608 project units in overall consumption, while Post Malone’s “Congratulations” reached No. 5 with 3,625,039. Future’s platinum single “Mask Off” lands at the No. 6 spot with 3,576,938 units moved while Lil Uzi Vert’s “XO Tour Llif3” hit No. 8 with a resounding 3,399,233. DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One” also cracked the Top 10 at the No. 9 spot with 3,294,231 units.

Kendrick is closing the year out with a bang. Yesterday, his cover with Variety was unveiled, and this weekend he picked the Favorite Hip Hop Album Award at the American music Awards. In his interview with Variety, he talked about his creative process.

“For me, prior to me recording, it’s 70% me just formulating ideas in my mind and 30% just collecting sounds and making sounds, prior to me actually getting in the studio,” he explained. “Then it’s about figuring out which angle I’m going to attack it from and how the listener is going to perceive it. These are the ideas you’re constantly, constantly thinking about, and it’s not really about going to instrumentals and bringing on beats [from producers], because I feel my greatest knack is for taking cohesive ideas and putting them on wax. So it starts with me first, with my thoughts.”
