Killeen Charter Academy has closed permanently after two years of poor performance ratings, leaving the parents of over 200 students to find an alternative to what was an alternative.

The Killeen Daily Herald reported Wednesday that the school, which opened in 2013, earned an overall rating of "improvement required" from 2013-2015 and failed to score at or above state targets on two out of four performance index measures.

The rating from the Texas Education Agency came after unfavorable scores in "closing performance gaps" and "post-secondary readiness", according to the Herald.

The school was one of six campuses operated by Priority Charter School Network. The organization still operates schools in Copperas Cove, Belton, Temple, Georgetown, and Cedar Park.

Richard Milburn Academy at 802 North Second St. is now the only TEA-accredited school in Killeen.
