Killeen ISD Offering High School Junior And Seniors An Adulting 101 Event

Earlier today, Killeen's Independent School District announced an event geared towards High School Juniors and Seniors.

The event, titled “Adulting 101: Because life doesn’t come with instructions” will discuss these key topics to help students with some basic skills they'll need to succeed after school, but that aren't part of the regular curriculum:

• Landing your dream job
• Car purchase and maintenance 101
• Handling emergencies
• Money matters and credit
• Life balance
• Networking

The district is encouraging the upperclassmen to attend the event at the KISD Career Center, 1320 Stagecoach Road in Killeen, Thursday, April 29th.

After learning the hard way in my interviews between the ages of 18 and 20 that I needed to listen, look the interviewer in the eye, and not be too talkative, I realized I would have had more jobs than I could handle. If I'd gotten some good interview tips while in high school, it would have better prepped me for the real world.

And then there's credit.

Ha!

Let's not start on how the credit card companies prey on "The Young And The Restless."

If I'd received even a smidgeon of knowledge about credit management in high school, the world would be a better place.

I think this is great and should be offered as not only a one-time event, but a regular course.

Some may argue that it’s not the school's responsibility to teach students life skills, and it should be the parent's responsibility. But let's face it, there are some courses in the curriculum still being taught in schools that need to be updated.
