Ted Cruz Still Butt of The Joke After Comment On Dems in D.C.
Texas Democrats may have fled to D.C. but Twitter users still aren't letting Ted Cruz slide after he left the country for Cancun during Winter Storm Uri.
Currently, Texas House Republicans and Democrats have opposing views on new voting restrictions. During a special session set by Governor Abbott to vote on these new restrictions, Texas House Democrats decided to break quorum by flying to D.C.
Vice President Kamala Harris stated that Texas legislators who left the state "are leaders who are marching in the path that so many others before did." Vice President Harris further stated that, "fighting for the right to vote is as American as Apple Pie."
In a press release, Governor Abbott however stated:
"Texas Democrats’ decision to break a quorum of the Texas Legislature and abandon the Texas State Capitol inflicts harm on the very Texans who elected them to serve. As they fly across the country on cushy private planes, they leave undone issues that can help their districts and our state...The Democrats must put aside partisan political games and get back to the job they were elected to do. Their constituents must not be denied these important resources simply because their elected representative refused to show up to work."
Of course, Texas Senator Ted Cruz had to add his two cents as well. Cruz stated that Dems were, "throwing a fit because they don’t want basic election integrity steps strengthened in Texas." Cruz further stated, "This is at the end of the day, politics. And they need to get back to doing their jobs. And one way or the other, they will."
Unfortunately for Cruz, Texans and other officials felt he had no place to comment on the events of the special session after he left the country during the worst winter storm Texans have seen in their lifetime.
