Temple Police Investigating Yet Another Shooting

We're barely into a new week, and Temple police are already investigating two shootings - one of which left someone critically injured.

The most recent shooting was reported in the 1200 block of South 26th Street.

According to Temple PD spokesman Cody Weems, officers were dispatched to the area around 2:20 AM after someone reported several shots fired into a residence. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. However, officers did see damage to a home consistent with gunfire.

Around 2:20 AM Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of South 55th Street. Police did not release many details, but Weems reports that a man was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple in critical condition.

Sadly, these are just the latest in a string of shootings that have plagued the city over the past week.

Last Sunday, June 7, police were dispatched to Club Heavy, 806 French Avenue, shortly before 1:40 AM. A man there had been shot, and was transported to Scott & White with serious injuries.

About an hour later, police responded to call of shots fired in the 800 block of North Main Street. There were no injuries in that case, but a house did take damage from gunfire.

That same day, at around 9:15 PM, police were dispatched to the Village at Meadowbend Apartments, 2787 Martin Luther King Junior Drive, for yet another report of shots fired. This time, they met a man in the parking lot who'd been injured by gunfire. He was also transported to Scott & White. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Around 7:34 PM Tuesday, June 9, police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of South 16th Street, where a man and a woman had been shot. Both were transported to Scott & White in stable condition.

In the case of Tuesday's shooting, a suspect was taken into custody the same night.

38-year-old Frederick Banks of Temple was booked into the Bell County Jail at 11:19 PM Tuesday. Records indicate he was no longer in the jail as of Monday morning, June 15.
