A Temple police officer was in the Bell County Jail Thursday after a grand jury returned three felony indictments against him Wednesday.

Jail records indicate that Corporal Brandon Mathiews, 38, is charged with possession of child pornography, invasive visual recording in a bathroom or dressing room, and indecency with a child - sexual contact. He was booked at 3:51 PM Wednesday. His bonds totaled $30,000 late Thursday morning.

According to Temple PD Media Relations Specialist Ellen Morton, the department received the allegations against Mathiews on November 17, 2018 and requested the aid of the Texas Rangers to investigate. Mathiews was immediately placed on paid investigative leave, and all physical and remote access to Temple PD and its records management system was revoked.

On November 21, 2018, Temple Police Chief Floyd Mitchell requested Mathiews' resignation. Mathiews refused, and remained on paid investigative leave.

Mathiews was placed on unpaid investigative leave after the indictments were handed down, on which he will remain pending the outcome of the internal investigation’s disciplinary process or the final disposition of the criminal case.
