Believe it or not, over the past few years in Texas, Dallas proper has actually lost a little in population even as the overall metro with Fort Worth continues to climb towards becoming the third largest market in the United States. In fact, it is estimated that both Houston and D/FW will both move beyond Chicago in terms of total market size by the end of the next decade.

It is actually conceivable that both of Texas's largest markets could blow by Chicago in the next 10 years. As the city of Chicago continues to lose residents year over year within city limits, Houston's city numbers will very likely pass those of Chicago in under a decade.

To be perfectly honest, as a family who travels throughout much of the state all year long, I was very surprised to see some of the town names listed as the 15 fastest growing. There are currently several regions in Texas that the general construction mayhem within their city alone made it incredibly clear it was growing in a rapid way.
