Texas Ranks Among Least Educated States
Texas ranked #39 on a WalletHub list of the most educated states and was in the top five when it came to states with the lowest percentage of people with a high school diploma.
So what does that mean?
We're all just dumb.
I'm kidding, of course.
Before we jump to conclusions, let's break it down:
-Did this study factor in people who attended a trade school?
-What are the people who didn't get a high school diploma doing now?
-Is it time to reform our education policies and eliminate standardized testing?
-Is it possible for Texans who don't earn college degrees to still live a good life here in the Lone Star State?
These were questions that came to mind as I read through the Methodology section of WalletHub's article. They compared states based on educational attainment and quality of education using 18 metrics including age, gender, and racial equality.
While the numbers seem to paint a grim picture of Texas, many of us know from experience that a college education, while a great thing to have, doesn't always translate to wild success. Knowledge is power, but there are many things about which you can be knowledgeable and never get praise for.
Chances are you know someone with a college degree who has no practical knowledge, while someone you know with a GED may be able to fix just about anything you ask them to.
Perhaps the folks at WalletHub can learn from the video below.
What do you think? Does the WalletHub study paint an accurate picture of Texas and what it means to be successful and build a good life here? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
