Texas Softball Player Killed After Being Hit by Teammate’s Jeep
A 14-year-old Forney High School softball player was killed this week when a teammate accidentally backed into her with a Jeep.
As reported by KTVT-TV, Emily Galiano attended a team dinner Tuesday night. After the meal, several of her teammates loaded into a Jeep driven by a 16-year-old student athlete. The driver, who says she was unaware Galiano was behind her vehicle, struck the girl, fatally wounding her.
Galiano was transported to a Dallas hospital, where she passed away later that night.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Kaufman County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Jolie Stewart told the Midland Reporter-Telegram that the incident was a tragic accident, and authorities do not intend to press criminal charges.
Galiano's team decided to take the field Thursday against Mansfield Lake Ridge in a playoff game in order to honor their fallen teammate's memory.
