Walmart store employees in Texas are set the be the first in the company to take advantage of new perks that will provide a direct path to higher pay, more advancement, further education, and better overall benefits. Worker retention has gotten better recently, but companies are facing all time highs in staff recruitment competition because almost everywhere you look, retail employees are in too short of supply.

A couple of years ago, Walmart launched their One Global Walmart Academy to complement the over 200 locations of Walmart Academy that had been operating since 2016 with the purpose of creating more upward potential for their existing staff.

The focus began shifting in 2022, to three core developments:

  1. On the job skill development to continually elevate services available like in the bakery.
  2. Future skill needs to keep up with the times like the recently offered InHome Delivery specialists.
  3. Leadership skills for managers to best motivate their teams and encourage growth.

Texas Walmart Workers Lead New Program For Extra Perks

Walmart has most recently been very keen on upping the skilled trades staffing, and has been working on training their own drivers who now can start at around $100,000 per year. According to this KCEN article, about 100 Dallas and Fort Worth employees will be the first to begin a new development program.

Walmart has grown their skilled certificates from 5 in 2020 to 50 today. Cash incentives have also been approved for hourly workers.
