The Texas Trooper Who Pulled Over Sandra Bland Has Been Charged

Brian Encinia, the Texas state trooper who arrested Sandra Bland, was indicted on a misdemeanor perjury charge Wednesday.

Encinia is accused of lying about how he removed Sandra from her vehicle. Sandra was found dead in her Waller County jail cell three days after the stop. This is the same grand jury that decided not to indict any sheriff's officials or jailers in Sandra's death. Enciana was fired several hours after the indictment was handed up. Video recorded by the camera in Encinia’s patrol vehicle, shows that what started as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a physical confrontation after Bland refused the trooper's request to put out the cigarette she was smoking.
