Where To Go On Your Next CenTex Birthday Extravaganza
I recently celebrated my 25th birthday and a weird thing a lot of folks said was "you've made it to your quarter-life!". So 100 is the standard now? I'm lucky to be alive now!
Anyway, for the past two years, I've had my birthday dinner at one of the most unique restaurants in central Texas: Morelia Mexican Grill. Check out the video to see for yourself.
I've never been to a place quite like it before. You walk in and are greeted with a smile, even with a large group there wasn't a wait for a table. Waiting for the rest of my group I did a little extra exploring.
Half the restaurant is a ghost town, maybe it's reserved for meetings and events, but with the lights off and odd statues all around I was spooked when I snuck in. Then the main half isn't what you'd expect from a Mexican grill. With brick columns, what appears to be ancient greek art, fake flames, and more the decor will keep you entertained the whole night.
Then the spookiest thing is the trip to the bathroom. The video doesn't do it justice, but on your way the restroom you walk down a bleak long hall with just the artificial flame lighting the way, you think to yourself "is it worth it, I can hold it", but once you brave it the bathroom is a clean as can be, you won. (I didn't film in the bathroom, that's weird)
Now, it's time for the meal. Lot's to choose from. I got a sampler plate and boy was it delicious. I was donned a sombrero in honor of my sweet 16 and serenaded the public domain 'happy birthday'. I wept.
There are five Morelia's around central Texas, I went to Round Rock location, I have to visit them all now. It's my duty as an American and a birthday boy!
