Today marks the anniversary of the death of The Notorious B.I.G who was gunned down in L.A 23 years ago.

I was a senior in high school in 1997 and his killing occurred on a Saturday night.

I woke up the following morning and cut the radio on and heard the announcer Gene Phillips deliver the news.

All I could remember is damn this is not good.

A year earlier 2-Pac was killed and he and Biggie were beefing, so one of the first thoughts was that this was retaliation....and who was next??

Snoop?? Puffy??

This was a very sad time for hip hop.

It was then when you saw artists from different coasts coming together to show unity.

23 years later, he is still one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time.
