Governor Abbott Says No To Mask Mandate Despite COVID Increase

Governor Abbott basically told Texans Wednesday he doesn't care that COVID cases are rising - you won't be mandated to wear a mask.

He told KPRC-TV:

“There will be no mask mandate imposed, and the reasons for that are very clear, there are so many people who have immunities to COVID, whether it be through the vaccination, whether it be through their own exposure and their recovery from it, which would be acquired immunity.”

It would be “inappropriate to require people who already have immunity to wear a mask,” Abbott said.

In my opinion, this doesn't make any sense.

If you notice that the cases are going up, shouldn't you want your state to take precautionary measures to further stop the spread?

According to The Bell County Health District, as of yesterday, here in Central Texas there are 512 active cases. Over the weekend there were almost 400 new cases.

And Governor Abbott doesn't care.

KWTX reports that the Texas positivity rate has risen above 10%. In the past, this threshold called for concern, but not now.

I'm guessing the development of the COVID vaccine has the Governor more relaxed at his stance.

Personally, while I am not for another shutdown, I am in favor of bringing back social distancing mandates and mask requirements.

What about that 2011 Dallas Mavericks team that gave Dallas their first-ever NBA Championship under the leadership of Dirk Nowitski, Jason Kidd, Jason Terry and company?

We definitely can't deny new superstar Luka Doncic and the Mavericks of today inching closer and closer to becoming a dominant West Coast Team.

I would be foolish not to mention those Houston Rockets teams that repeated as NBA Champions in the mid-90s, (I did say past 25 years right?) and the James Harden led team, who along with Chris Paul boosted the Rockets to the playoffs year after year ultimately leading them to the Western Conference Finals.
