More Details Emerge About Temple High School Student’s Arrest for Possession of a Firearm on Campus
A Temple High School student arrested last week for carrying a loaded gun on campus remained in the Bell County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
Jail records indicate that Godfrey, 18, was booked at 1:34 PM on Tuesday, October 2. He's been charged with third degree felony possession of a firearm in a prohibited area, and was being held in lieu of $150,000 bond.
Alex Cano with our news partner, KWTX, obtained an arrest affidavit that shines light on some details of the case.
According to the affidavit, Godfrey's arrest came after a student informed a school resource officer that he'd seen three teens in a bathroom, one of whom had a gun. When officers detained Godfrey, they found a loaded gun with a round in the chamber and a laser attachment inside a laptop case.
Two other students were searched, and neither had weapons.
Godfrey reportedly told police the gun belonged to his grandmother, and that he was carrying it for protection.
