Before I dive into this story, I want to remind everyone that the Central Texas Food Bank is hosting a free drive-through food distribution event in Temple this Saturday, August 15. If your family is in need of some help during these harsh economic times, or if you know someone who could use help but can't get to this event themselves, be at Temple College (2600 S. 1st Street) between 9 AM and 11 AM. Just drive up and pop your trunk, and they'll pack it with:

  • One box of assorted produce
  • 1-2 gallons of milk
  • One protein box weighing between 8 and 20 pounds containing chicken or pork products

The food bank is doing its best to ensure that our neighbors in need get the nutrition assistance they need in these difficult times, so please only attend this event and take food if you absolutely need it or are picking up for someone who does.

Thankfully, the Central Texas Food Bank just received a boost to their efforts to help nearly 50,000 Central Texans in the form of a $55,000 grant from Starbucks. The funds will benefit the food bank's mobile food pantry program, which distributes food to 21 counties in Central Texas - Bell included.

“One in seven people in Central Texas struggle with hunger,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank. “We are proud to partner with Starbucks and Feeding America to ensure that people who struggle with hunger have access to wholesome meals. This grant exemplifies what we can accomplish when we work together.”

The Central Texas Food Bank relies on volunteers and donations to make these events possible. If you can volunteer your time and want to help your neighbors in need, visit centraltexasfoodbank.org/get-involved/volunteer. If you want to help with a monetary donation, visit their donation page.

We're all being extra careful these days and sticking tight to our budgets, but if you have the time or means to help, your support could help good people here in Central Texas weather this storm.
