Times were already tough thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, then Winter Storm Uri slammed Texas last month and left many of our friends and neighbors facing more financial hardship and food insecurity.

The Central Texas Food Bank has done an incredible job of helping people with care packages of nutritious food, but with increased need comes the need for more volunteers to help with their mission.

They'll be at Temple College this Saturday, April 3 from 9 AM to 11 AM distributing food, and they could really use your help. If you're interested in volunteering, you can get signed up on their website here. They also have a donation page if you'd like to help, but can't make it out to volunteer.

If your family is experiencing food insecurity right now or you can pick up on the behalf of someone in need, be at Temple College, 2600 S. 1st Street, this Saturday. The distribution event is designed as a drive-thru, but they won't turn you away if you visit on foot. Just make sure you bring a container large enough for a food care package and that allows you to easily carry the food home.

If you drive to the event, volunteers will load the food into your trunk. They'll be masked up for your protection, and as a courtesy you should wear a mask as well.

The next food distribution event will be at Waco ISD Stadium Thursday, April 22 from 10 AM to Noon. The Food Bank could use volunteers for that event too.
